The Grojband Pilot was the pilot episode of the Canadian animated TV show Grojband. This was an extended version of the episode, titled "Smash Up Terby", but premiered three years later. The pilot episode was shifted into a workprint.
Synopsis[]
Corey booked a gig at the carnival and they were going to try and impress a celebrity named Chip Chunkley but he didn't have lyrics.
Plot[]
The pilot began with a bird named Red Breast selling a nest to some other birds. He told them that they were going to love their home because the neighbourhood was very quiet. Just then, a very loud blast of sound shook the ground and scared the birds away. Red Breast took the for sale sign and flew. It was then revealed that the sound was coming from Corey playing his guitar in the garage, trying to make a song. He first tried singing a song about a moose head wearing a tie on the wall. However, his song did not turn out to be so good. Instead, he tried singing a song about his next-door neighboir and his butt crack getting exposed while he was bending over to trim the hedges. However, this song also turned out to be bad. He tried again with singing a song about some rotten food he threw out init the trash can. He asked the rest of his band if he did any good. Kin and Kon responded simply by laughing. Laney told him that his music was no good but that the "no" was lowercase. Corey asked her if she really meant that because he was "case sensitive." Laney told him that she was honest about what she said. Corey's spirits got raised as he asked them if they liked it. However, they all just sucked their teeth which told Corey that they really didn't like it at all. Corey screamed in rage and violence because of how terrible he was at writing lyrics. Laney told him that he now needed to think of something fast because they had a gig booked at the Carnival in an hour and that they needed a new song before they got there. She then tried sugarcoating it by saying that there was no pressure. However, Kin and Kon came up to Corey and whispered "pressure" in his ear multiple times. Laney then added that Chip Chunkly was going to be there too. Kin and Kon then whispered "Chunkly" in his ear until they stopped and realized how amazing this was that he was there. Kin and Kon excitedly explained that Chip Chunkly was one of the most amazing figures in the rock universe. Kin and Kon then jumped into the air and told a Rock Lore about him, saying that he was someone who made or broke the future of rock bands. Corey told everyone that everything definitely worked out for them and that nothing stood in their way, just as he opened the door to the car, revealing Trina. Trina got out, and told the band that she was not happy with the way their father was making her drop them off at the carnival in her car and that if they were going to ride in the car with her, they were going to have to follow her rules. She told Corey not to sing, Kin not to "nerd," Laney not to shave, and Kon not to fart. Kon responded to this by pulling her finger and making her fart. The band got in the car and as they did, Trina yelled at them, nagging them about keeping her car clean. Kon was excited to get exposure for the band to someone like Chip Chunkley and said that it made his band the "Gods of rock." Trina complained, asking why she even HAD to drive Corey and his band to the carnival and Corey reminded her by playing a tape recording of her father telling her to do so. Trina called her friend Mina over and Mina immediately appeared in her car. Still unsatisfied, Trina waited angrily. Mina realized that she was making a mistake and remembered that she was supposed to compliment her every time she greeted her. Mina quickly thought a compliment and told her that she loved her hair. Trina acted like she wasn't even expecting this from her and thanked her for it. Before they even left the garage, Kate and Allie were both at the door cheering for Grojband. Trina ignored them and she drove right into them. They both screamed and jumped their way out of the way as Trina drove off to the carnival. Kate and Allie texted each other, talking about how much of an honor it was to almost get run over by a car with their favorite band inside of it. Then, they both squealed at the tops of their lungs.
Meanwhile, Trina was angrily driving down the road and as she was, she destroyed everything in her path, from buildings to other cars, to people because apparently, she was not that good of a driver. Mayor Mellow was seen in his car looking very nervous. He was on the lookout for Trina, hoping that she did not come anywhere near him and wreck his car. He made sure he's being as safe a driver as possible, putting on his turn signals and strapping in his seat belt and everything, but as soon as he started off on the open road, Trina came blazing at a ridiculously high speed, leaving a trail of flames behind, smashing right into Mayor Mellow's car, spinning him around and making his scream in terror. Mayor Mellow then ran around the car hollering about Trina's bad driving. A picture of his mother was shown to be in the car next to him and Mayor Mellow was talking to her as though she was really there and apparently blaming him for the accident.
Trina continued to recklessly drive down the road, destroying things. One of the cars that she hit, spun wildly off the road and blew up in a fiery explosion. Trina screamed out the window at him, telling him to pick a lane. Kin impatiently asked Corey where they'll get lyrics if they survived Trina's driving, hypothetically. Corey said that he got lyrics by stealing them from Trina's Diary. Trina talked to Mina about Nick Mallory and Corey peeked over the seat and spotted her diary in her purse. Trina asked how much Nick liked her on a scale of 1 to 10 and Mina telled her that she was a 10 for sure. Unsatisfied with the answer, Trina told her that Mina was blowing smoke and so she changed her answer to 8.6 which made Trina even more unhappy as she lashes out in rage at her. Mina then came up with 9.9 which Trina was so happy to hear. Corey went to Kon and told him that he had a plan to steal Trina's diary but he had to distract her. Kon lovingly slicked his hair back and told him that he'll do it with pleasure. Kon went up to Trina and started flirting with her. He told her that he was a voluntary fireman in a video game that he was playing. Trina freaked out because she saw Kon as an inhuman creature and she began flailing around, trying to avoid making eye contact with him. Meanwhile, Corey slipped his hand into Trina's purse and stole her diary. Trina took out a spray can of what appears to be pepper spray and then sprayed Kon in the eyes. Kon screamed loudly in pain but revealed that it's not pepper spray, but peppermint that was stinging his eyeballs. Corey sat back with Trina's diary and looked through her entries, but as he flipped through them, he saw that they had already used everything in there and it sended everyone, including him for once, into a panic.

- In this episode, Corey and Trina's last names were "Trippin".
- In this episode, we can hear the actual voice of Mr. Riffin on a tape recorder that his son plays.
- There was a monster truck in this episode, titled "Big Toe", which was a parody on Bigfoot.
- The bird at the start of the episode, known as Red Breast, was the first character to speak in this episode, making him the first character in Grojband history to have a talking line. That line being: "You folks will not be sorry. You are just going to love this peaceful neighbourhood."
- Diary Mode was different in this episode. This time, after Trina grabbed the pen and diary, the word "Write!" appeared on screen flashing and when Trina writes in her diary, instead of showing a front view panning across the screen as she writes in the diary, it showed the view directly on the page while Trina wrote lines of flames on it, and instead of immediately exiting diary mode after that, a bunch of the words "Writing song lyrics" surrounded her.
- Kate and Allie fired a bunch of black T-shirts with Grojband skulls on it to the audience in this episode. These shirts are the exact same shirt as the one Duncan wears in the Total Drama series (which Fresh TV produced the series).
- This was the longest episode of the show being 22 minutes long.
- The 12-minute Leica version of this episode was shortened enough to be an actual episode. However, for unknown reasons, the final cut of this episode doesn't contain a lot of the things in the Leica, including Red Breast.
