Here’s a piece of news that 2D animation purists may have a tough time to swallow. The Hollywood Reporter reports that Universal Pictures and Illumination Entertainment (Despicable Me, The Lorax) will be developing the Canadian cartoon Grojband into a 2D/CG-animated/live action feature film franchise. Universal is ready to turn the hugely popular cartoon franchise by Neptoon Studios into a feature that is slated for a April 15, 2016 release.
Chris Renaud, who directed the Universal/Illumination’s Dr. Seuss' The Lorax and Universal’s summer blockbuster Despicable Me 2 will helm the project, along with Henry Selick (The Nightmare Before Christmas, James and the Giant Peach, Coraline). It is written by one of Grojband creators, Todd Kauffman.
How cool would that be? Leave your thoughts down below. Heck, I even made an opening logo sequence which you can check out down below. Tell me if it interests you enough to read the fanfiction that I wrote which is the movie's plot:
Sorry for the late reply, haven't been able to get online.
Interesting idea, though I don't think Universal would crossover Grojband with other franchises in the first film. Got to introduce Grojband to the world first and they need a solo film for that.
As for the trailer, not bad. Integrating Trina in was done very well, and the stop motion animation is okay as well. Only main issue is the background of the minions doesn't match the backdrop of the whole scene. Otherwise good effort.
Actually, Stryzzar, I wasn't saying that Universal would cross Grojband with other franchises. I only had Trina and the minions because Illumination Entertainment always uses the latter in the logo no matter what movie they make. If you've seen the logo variants from Hop or Dr. Seuss' The Lorax, you would understand my point.
Also, thanks for praising my work, dude! Feedback is always appreciated. The minions look terribly greenscreened because I made this over a year ago and I wasn't quite experiencec with Sony Vegas at the time.
On a side note, I was thinking of the GB movie being the start of a deal where(aside from an Illumination Entertainment-produced Sidekick adaptation)Universal Studios does feature film adaptations of other Fresh TV properties. One idea I had was a live-action Total Drama movie produced by Steven Spielberg's Amblin Entertainment.
Reply whenever you can!
P.S. What do you think that the guys at Illumination Entertainment or Neptoon Studios would do for the GB movie's plot? Any ideas or are you interested in that fan fiction?
Ohhh, I see. I haven't seen that many Universal trailers.
Understandable, does it take long to do?
Hmm, I think Fresh's shows don't have enough popularity to be bought by a film company just yet. For one not enough people have heard of Grojband due to it's hiatus on Cartoon Network. I think I heard rumors of a Total Drama movie, no idea if it's real or not.
Since it's a movie, something big. My guess, Grojband encountering the Gods of Rocklympus, with either Grojband teaming up or having the Gods as villains.
Not really. I had some low-quality equipment at the time. If I made it today, I would've learned how to animate my own minions using Flash. Mostly because that's what I think Neptoon Studios would do if the movie was real. Don't you agree? I would also change the Universal logo slightly. Any ideas?
That is a good plot. The one that I wrote is a lot different, but I like yours a lot. The only thing I would change is that because this is by a company who does CG-animated films, I would have the Bonkerton Comet return and this time, it turns everything computer animated. That's why I like having the Gods as villains because they could be the cause of the comet hitting and so, Grojband must go to Mt. Rocklympus to confront the Gods. I like that idea so much that I put this cast list together. Tell me if you agree with any choices:
Peter Dinklage as Frequencious
Will Forte as Shredicious
Geoffrey Rush as Lyricles
Bill Hader as Nerdicious
Pierre Coffin as Ancient Samban 1
Chris Renaud as Ancient Samban 2
Samuel Jackson as Dark Rimmed Glasseous
Steve Coogan as King Lyricles
What do you think? Also, the Four Squalls should be the voices of their Groj counterparts. Plus, if you don't know who Pierre Coffin and Chris Renaud are, they do the voices of the minions. I chose them because of their roles as all the background animals in Dr. Seuss' The Lorax. I also chose Steve Coogan because not only is he in both Despicable Me 2 and Minions, but he is also doing a voice in Illumination's next film, The Secret Life of Pets. Plus, if this GB movie were real, then it would come out after Minions and before The Secret Life of Pets.
Yes, I would think so. Though 3D Flash would be very hard to do.
Interesting. An in-universe explanation as to how the artstyle changed. Though I don't think most people would bother going to that much trouble, and would just change the artstyle with no explanation. But yours is good.
Honestly I really don't know, not having heard the Rock Gods ever speak before, they're voices can be anyone's guess. What voice would Geoffrey Rush being doing? His Barbarossa voice or something? I would've thought Dark Rimmed Glasseous would have a less intimidating voice than Samuel Jackson, but it could work.
I do know Pierre and Chris voice the Minions, and quite a brilliant job at that. Apparently the Minions were going to be voiced by someone else, and Pierre did a sample voice to show how he wanted the Minions to sound, and he was so good they just cast him.
Other than the ones I mentioned, either I'm not sure or they could work.
I haven't been into fanfics for a while, but occasionally I come across a good one. I'll check yours out if you link it to me.
Oh that one. Didn't realize that was the fanfic you were talking about. I had a look over it. Well, it's very long, and I see you put a lot of work into it. As far as fanfic go, this one's decent, everyone's in character and no stupid scenes that I often see in fanfics. Although there seems to be a tad too many Grojband characters thrown in at once, but that's a minor issue.
Ah, nice. They're still believing based on the likes you got for that video. Although some of the shots like Laney raging might give it away. When do you plan on revealing it's fake? Or was that "leaked" video that Dreamworks guy will release on YT just going to be the thing you use to back up the hoax?
